Types of Conversations

1. Practice Paper (5 pages):
These papers focus on the practical aspects of teaching and learning innovations. They describe the implementation of new teaching methods, strategies, or tools, and discuss the outcomes and lessons learned. Practice papers provide valuable insights for educators looking to apply similar approaches in their own contexts.

2. Research Paper (10 pages):
Research papers present original research findings related to PBL, engineering education and the scholarship of teaching and learning. These papers should include a clear research question, methodology, data analysis, and conclusions. They contribute to the academic body of knowledge by providing evidence-based insights and theoretical advancements.

3. Workshop:
Workshops offer interactive sessions where participants engage in hands-on activities, discussions, and collaborative learning experiences. Workshops are designed to provide practical skills, share innovative practices, and foster networking and collaboration among educators and researchers. Proposals for workshops should outline the objectives, activities, and expected outcomes.

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

Please consider the description of the type of conversation you are interested in and submit your abstract directly in EasyChair. (The submission link is provided at the top of the page). Abstract length is a max. of 300 words.

Unique Conference Format

Interactive Sessions:

Experience sessions where three different communities come together to present practice and research papers. These sessions are linked to themes of interest for participants and enable immediate co-creation of ideas using PBL style facilitation.

Ask/Offer Opportunity:

Engage in an unconferencing session where participants have the opportunity to ask for and offer expertise, resources, and collaboration. This session fosters spontaneous interactions and networking, leading to unexpected collaborations and insights.

Mentorship Sessions:

Connect with renowned researchers from different fields during mentorship sessions. Participants can attend sessions with these experts to reflect on and unpack themes of interest, broadening their perspectives and enhancing their learning experience.

Community Engagement:

The conference will be welcoming the opportunity to engage with stakeholders, coordinators of the 9 Faculties at the University of Pretoria’s community engagement initiatives, and sponsors beyond academia. We would like to invite our industry and professional body partners to share their expertise and join the conversation to co-create the future.
